Abstract: | The study aims to identify the level of addiction to social media among Al-Quds Open University students, and its relationship to social isolation and psychological loneliness, using the descriptive correlative approach, and applying the study tools to a cluster sample, from the branches of Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Salfit, and Nablus, consists of 282 male and female students, distributed according to demographic study variables, in the academic year 2021/2022. The results show that the average of social media addiction was (3.21), with a percentage (64.2%), and a moderate level. The results show that the average of social isolation is (2.66), with a percentage (53.2%), and a moderate level. The average of feeling psychological loneliness is (2.58), with a percentage (51.6%), and a moderate level also. The results indicates that there are no statistically significant differences at the level (α≥.05) in social media addiction due to: gender, specialization, place of residence, while the differences are statistically significant in social isolation according to the specialization, in favor of: (Arts), (Social and Family Development), and (Administrative and Economic Sciences). As well as the presence of statistically significant differences in the feeling of psychological loneliness according to specialization, in favor of (Arts), (Social and Family Development), (Administrative and Economic Sciences). The results reveal a positive statistically significant relationship between social media addiction and social isolation and psychological loneliness. The value of the Pearson correlation coefficient is (.534) and (.440) respectively, and there is a direct statistically significant relationship between social isolation and a sense of psychological loneliness among students, as the value of the Pearson correlation coefficient is (.846). The results indicates that there is a statistically significant effect of social isolation in predicting feelings of psychological loneliness, it is noted that the social isolation variable has explained (71.6%) of the percentage of variance in feelings of psychological loneliness, that is, the social isolation variable has an important and basic role in predicting feelings of psychological loneliness. It does not contribute significantly to predicting the level of psychological loneliness. |
