Title: Marital Adjustment Strategies with Emotional Divorce among a Sample of Couples in Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate

Abstract: The study aims at recognizing the main causes that lead to emotional divorce, and recognizing the most applied strategies in marital adjustment among a sample of couples in Ramallah and Brieh governorate related to (gender, years of marriage, number of children, economical level, educational level). Descriptive and analytical methodologies were applied, which consisted of (Emotional Divorce) scale and (Marital Adjustment) scale, the reliability and stability of the instrument were verified, to achieve the goals of the study, the researcher selected a convenient sample that consisted of (370) couples in Ramallah and Brieh governorate. The findings showed that there was a medium level for the total degree and all subscales of the causes of emotional divorce scale, with (2.97) mean; it also showed that there was a medium level for the total degree of marital adjustment scale and all subscales, with (2.78) mean, it also found that there were statistical significant differences between the means of emotional divorce factors for the total degree related to gender variable, in favor of males, and there were statistical differences for the sociological factor related to number of children, in favor of (no children); there were statistical differences for all emotional divorce factors related to economical level, in favor of salaries (4000NIS or more); there were statistical differences for the economical factor related to years of marriage, in favor of (less than five years); there were statistical differences for all emotional factors related to educational factor, in favor of (diploma). It was also found that there were statistical significant differences between score means due to strategic adjustment (problem-solving, social support, religion, acceptance) strategies related to gender, in favor of (females), and there were statistical differences for problem solving and entertainment related to number of children factor, in favor of (no children); there were statistical differences for (problem-solving, entertainment, social support, marital discharge, religion, acceptance) factors related to economical level, in favor of salaries range between (2000-4000NIS), and there were statistical differences for marital discharge related to years of marriage, in favor of (less than five years); there were statistical differences for (entertainment factors, social support, marital discharge, religion, and avoidance) factors related to educational level, in favor of (diploma). Upon these findings, and the discussion, the researcher recommended the necessity to understand the reasons and motives that lead to the turbulence in married relationships among couples. It was also recommended couples to visit a consultant in marital relationships specially when it goes too far, and to stop hurrying in decision making which is critical to the family.
