Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the level of psychological and social problems and their relation to psychological stress among the inmates of the reform and rehabilitation centers in the West Bank, in addition to investigate the psychological and social differences according to the demographic variables (gender, age, place of residence before entering the center, judgement duration, social status and educational level).
The study was based on the descriptive method. The sample of the study was chosen randomly, according to the demographic variables in the rehabilitation centers in the West Bank. It included (452) prisoners distributed in Jericho, (166) in Bethlehem,( 80) in Nablus, the sample comprised 30% of the original community. The results showed that the overall degree of psychological and social problems was moderate, with the average percentage of responses (61.8%), the results of the study indicate that there is a positive correlation between the psychological and social problems and the level of psychological stress among the inmates of the rehabilitation centers in the West Bank. And an intermediate degree of response in the overall degree of (psychological and social problems) and (level of psychological pressure), and there is no statistical differences at the level of significance (α ≤0.05) between the level of the average psychological and social problems depending on the variables of age, place of residence before entering the center, and judgement duration. While there were differences due to sex variables and educational level in addition to the absence of differences with a statistical function at the level of significance (α ≤0.05) between the average level of psychological stress according to the variables of sex, age, place of residence before entering the center, judgement duration, and educational level.
In light of the results of the study, the researcher suggested a number of recommendations, including finding a psychologist and a social specialist for each center, allowing beneficiary work of the inmates and give them privacy, allow them to communicate with their families.
