THE PILLARS OF MOROCCAN FOREIGN POLICY TOWARDS WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES (2017-2024)

Abstract

This study (The pillars of Moroccan Foreign Policy towards West African Countries 2017-2024) comes to highlight this important stage of the historical relations that unite the Kingdom of Morocco with the various countries of West Africa. The study aimed to analyze the content of Moroccan foreign policy based on its fundamental pillars, particularly towards West African countries. It also examined the transformations and results achieved by the Kingdom of Morocco's active diplomacy in its relations with various West African countries, which witnessed significant development after 2017, the year of the Moroccan’s return to the African Union after a 32 year of absence. The study used the historical approach, the descriptive analytical approach, the case study approach, and the legal approach. The study concluded that there is an inherent historical link that has remained continuous and unique, despite the Kingdom of Morocco’s boycott of the main organization in the African continent. The study also addressed the main turning points that Moroccan-West African relations have witnessed, especially after 2017. It has also become clear that Moroccan diplomacy towards Africa is based on an active presence on the African continent, through the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to promoting peace and security on the African continent, working to help resolve African wars and conflicts, and actively participating and contributing to the development of the African continent, as Morocco has become the second largest African investor within the African continent, with Moroccan companies and contractors active in various economic and development sectors and fields
