The Psychological Adjustment and its relationship to social support for a sample of patients with chronic renal failure at Palestine Medical Complex

Abstract

The study aims to defining the relationship between the psychological adjustment and social support for a sample of patients with chronic renal failure at Palestine Medical Complex, investigating the level of these two variables and identifying the variances between their respective means depending on the variables: gender, age, social status and profession. The descriptive method was used where study standards were applied on a sample that included )224) patients with chronic renal failure at Palestine Medical Complex.

The results of this study demonstrated that the psychological adjustment was of high level with a mean of (4.08) where the level of social support was also high with a mean of (4.13). It also showed that there was no any variances between the psychological adjustment subject to gender and age variables while variances for variables of social status in favor of single and profession in favor of employed was expressed as statistical function. The study showed that there were no variances between the social support subject to gender, age and profession while variances of social stats in favor of single was expressed as a statistical function.

The study concluded that there is a correlational relationship of statistical function between the psychological adjustment and social support for a sample of patients with chronic renal failure at Palestine Medical Complex where Pearson’s correlation coefficient was (.659) by which the relationship was positive correlation; i.e. the greater the degree of psychological adjustment, the greater the level of social support. The resulted recommended the need for providing nutritionists and social worker to follow-up the case of renal failure patients and organize seminars at hospitals to raise awareness of patients’ families with respect to psychological conditions of the patient and how to deal with these conditions.
