The Effectiveness of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Counseling Program in Reducing Irrational Thoughts and Enhancing Self-Esteem Among Wives of Individuals with Psychological Disorders in Jerusalem

The Effectiveness of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Counseling Program in Reducing Irrational Thoughts and Enhancing Self-Esteem Among Wives of Individuals with Psychological Disorders in Jerusalem
Jamal Hamdan Shqirat, Manal; Jaber Alawnah, Prof. Mazouz
The study aims to explore the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral therapy-based counseling program in reducing irrational thoughts and enhancing self-esteem among wives of individuals with psychological disorders in Jerusalem. The study utilizes a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consists of 14 wives of individuals with psychological disorders from the Hadi Center for Psychological Support in Jerusalem, aged between 32 and 60 years, choosing through purposive sampling. The study uses two scales: one for irrational thoughts and the other for self-esteem, which were administered before the intervention. Participants then underwent a counseling program consisting of 14 sessions. After the completion of the program, the same scales were administered post-intervention and again six weeks later to assess the sustainability of the program’s effect.
The results reveal significant differences in the pretest and posttest measurements on both scales, favoring the posttest, indicating the effectiveness of the counseling program in reducing irrational thoughts and enhancing self-esteem among the participants. Additionally, the results show no statistically significant differences between the posttest and follow-up measurements on the irrational thoughts scale, suggesting the sustained effectiveness of the program. However, there are statistically significant differences between the posttest and follow-up measurements on the self-esteem scale, indicating sustained program effectiveness in this area as well
Based on the findings, the study recommends the development and implementation of counseling programs grounded in psychological theories by counselors to assist individuals with psychological disorders in coping with life stressors resulting from having a family member with a psychological disorder.

The Effectiveness of Counseling Program Based on Expressive Arts to Improve Emotional Intelligence and Positive Parenting for Mothers of Pre School-Children

The Effectiveness of Counseling Program Based on Expressive Arts to Improve Emotional Intelligence and Positive Parenting for Mothers of Pre School-Children
A. Kabha, Rana; Ahmad Shaheen, Prof. Mohammed
The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a counseling program based on expressive arts to develop emotional intelligence and positive parenting for mothers of preschool children, using a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), through the quasi-experimental design of the experimental and control groups, and the qualitative approach through a focus group that includes(10) mothers from the members of the experimental group, through the questions that are poses to the group. The study scales were applied to a field sample consisting of( 100) mothers of preschool children, with the aim of selecting members of the experimental and control groups consisting of 20 mothers whose children obtained the lowest scores on the emotional intelligence and positive parenting scales. They were divided equally according to their scores on the two scales into two groups, one experimental and the other control, with 10 mothers for each group. The counseling program, consisting of 13 sessions, two sessions per week, with each session lasting 90 minutes, was applied to the experimental group. Pre-test and initial measurements were taken on both groups, while follow-up measurements were applied to the experimental group eight weeks after the program was completed.
The results show a lack of normal data distribution. Non-parametric tests were used to analyze the data (Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon test). The results showed statistically significant differences at the significance level (α 05. ≥) between the mean ranks of the two groups (experimental and control) in the post-test of the emotional intelligence and positive parenting scales and their dimensions, in favor of the experimental group. The mean of positive ranks is greater than the mean of negative ranks, reflecting a clear improvement in emotional intelligence and positive parenting scores in favor of the post-test. Consequently, the program is effective in developing emotional intelligence and positive parenting among mothers of preschool children, as the effect size value was high, reaching (r = .744; .623), respectively. The results of the focus group (10 mothers) supports the quantitative results of the study and enhances the clarity of the effectiveness of the applied counseling program. The results indicate the continued impact of the counselling programme on developing emotional intelligence and positive parenting in mothers after the follow-up period. The study recommends applying the counseling program to similar samples in the Palestinian environment, and developing specialized programs to educate parents about the concept of positive parenting and its importance in developing emotional intelligence skills in children.

Effectiveness of Counseling Program based on Self-Compassion in Developing Positive Thinking and Tolerance among Children with Adverse Childhood Experiences in Jerusalem
Ghneim, Randa; Abdalhafez Salameh, Prof. Kamal
The study aims to examine the effectiveness of a counseling program based on self-compassion in developing positive thinking and tolerance among children with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in Jerusalem, using a quasi-experimental method on a sample of (26) private school students who scored the highest on Childhood Trauma Scale and the lowest on the Positive Thinking and Tolerance Scales, after dividing them equally into two groups: experimental and control, and applying the counseling program to the experimental group over (12) sessions, with two sessions per week, each lasting (90) minutes.
The results revealed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the post-test measurements of positive thinking and tolerance, favoring the experimental group. Statistically significant differences were also found between the pre-test and post-test scores within the experimental group, favoring the post-test, with an effect size of (η² = .856), indicating a large effect that reflects the strong impact of implemented counseling program in enhancing positive thinking and tolerance among children with adverse childhood experiences, especially for those who have been physically abused. However, no significant differences were found between the post-test and follow-up measurements within the experimental group, indicating the sustained effectiveness of the counseling program in improving positive thinking and tolerance even after an eight-week follow-up period. Based on these findings, the study recommended applying the developed counseling program to other populations and for similar or different counseling purposes.

Educational Counselors' Attitudes Toward Utilizing Artificial Intelligence in Counseling and its Relationship with Perceived Self-Efficacy and Future Orientation in Palestine: A Proposed Supervisory Program
Jafar Hamdan, Walid; Ahmed Shaheen, Prof. Mohammed
The study aims to identify the attitudes of educational counselors toward the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in counseling and their relationship to perceived self-efficacy and future orientation in Palestine. The study adopts a descriptive correlational approach and Predictive approach. utilized three instruments to collect data: the Counselors’ Attitudes Toward the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Counseling Scale, the Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Future Orientation Scale. The study population consists of all educational counselors working in Palestinian public schools in the northern governorates, totaling 1,255, according to the Ministry of Education’s 2024/2025 statistics. The study sample included 294 male and female counselors. The results reveals that counselors’ attitudes toward the use of AI in counseling were high, with a mean score of 3.57 (71.4%), indicating a positive attitude and acceptance of integrating AI into the counseling field. The findings also show that the level of perceived self-efficacy among counselors was high, with a mean score of 4.16 (83.2%), while the level of future orientation was also high, with a mean of 3.81 (76.2%), reflecting an advanced level of future-directed thinking. Moreover, the study finds a positive correlation between counselors’ attitudes toward using AI in counseling and perceived self-efficacy, as well as a positive direct correlation between their attitudes toward AI use and their future orientation. The results also indicates a statistically significant effect (α ≤ 0.05) of both perceived self-efficacy and future orientation, which together explained 18.5% of the variance in counselors’ attitudes toward the use of AI in counseling. The study recommends implementing the proposed supervisory program, which aims to support counselors in effectively adopting and utilizing artificial intelligence in their professional practice.
