Unit One:Translation: Constraints and Difficulties
Translation (2) 5453
Dear student,
This is the first unit in this three-credit- hour course
titled Translation(II). As you already know from the
table of contents, this course consists of five units.
In this introductory unit of this course, some of the
constraints and difficulties that face students in
translators are to be represented. These will include the
issue of acceptability vs. correctness, the problem of
culture-bound terms, the question of neologisms, the
English phrasal verbs and idioms, the difficulty of
dealing with unfindable words, and the importance of
realizing the major differences between British and
American English. To achieve the objectives of this unit,
a lot of exercises will be given in addition to a sufficient
number of SAQs.
