Professor John Traxler / Professor of Mobile Learning & Research Professor of Digital Learning

Professor John Traxler was Professor of Mobile Learning, the world’s first, since September 2009, and now Research Professor of Digital Learning in the Institute of Education at the University of Wolverhampton UK. He is one of the pioneers of mobile learning and has been associated with mobile learning projects since 2001 when he was evaluator for m-learning, the first major EU project. He is a Founding Director and current Vice-President of the International Association for Mobile Learning, responsible for the annual international mLearn research conference running since 2002. He is co-editor of the definitive book, Mobile Learning: A Handbook for Educators and Trainers, and Mobile Learning: the Next Generation with Professor Agnes Kukulska-Hulme. He is also co-author of Mobilizing Mathematics: Case Studies of Mobile Learning being used in Mathematics Education and Mobile Learning and STEM: Case Studies in Practice, and has written many papers and chapters on all aspects of mobile learning. He sits on various editorial boards. He has been responsible for large-scale mobile learning implementations, small-scale mobile learning research interventions, major evaluations and landscape reviews. He currently works on a large EU project exploring digital learning for CPD in rural areas, and on several Erasmus projects building HE capacity. He has a grant to research digital literacy for the Palestinian refugee community and extensive experience in MENA and SSA. He previously ran the Learning Lab at the University of Wolverhampton with a small staff. He now leads the Institute’s digital learning research cluster. He has extensive experience developing mobile learning capacity amongst university teachers globally and in e-learning nationally. Over the last five years he has become involved in policy and strategy. He is a frequent international keynote speaker and has worked with a number of international agencies and international corporates. He supervises and examines PhDs in mobile learning and reviews proposals for national research. He has been actively developing innovative approaches to the ethics of mobile and popular digital technologies and contributes to early researcher development in the global South, specifically in mobiles for education for development.

Dr. Maria Fragkaki

I am a Special Needs Educator with a PhD, a State Scholarship and two Masters in Education Studies. I hold a Fellowship at the Higher Education Academy and a State Scholarship in New Technologies in Education. My specialization links Higher Education Learning and Teaching with Technology Enhanced Learning in Higher Education.

My principal research interests lie in the field of learning and teaching in Higher Education with the use of state of the art pedagogies. Together these enhance the HEIs quality, new research methodologies enriching academic research portfolios, emerging technologies and Open Education Resources to create a flexible, open and effective learning environment.

I have extensive teaching experience in four countries (UK, Greece, Cyprus and the Middle East) with 25 years of teaching experience as an Academic Teacher and a Special Needs Educator. I have taught several undergraduate and MA programmes relating to Learning Theories, Teaching Methodologies, Educational Research and Education Technologies.

My managerial experience feeds into the coordination of many innovative research projects and continuous Professional Development programmes. I have a strong collaboration with both EU and Global Universities and Institutes, and UK and EU professional bodies too.

Currently I work as Senior Researcher at King’s College London, running a Literature Review about the new UK and EU Educational Policies in Higher Education and developing OER and networking platforms. In addition, I am an experienced Programme Course Leader and Lecturer on TEL at the Open University of Cyprus. My collaboration as Senior Researcher in Higher Education with the Open University of Palestine is related to Higher Education Policies in e-learning and Blended Learning Alongside this, I also collaborate with the Open University of Greece tutoring a MA Professional Development programme in Special Education.

Dr.Olena Soloviova

Olena Soloviova is a full senior teacher at National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the third biggest university in Ukraine and a visiting professor at KROK University, the biggest private university in Ukraine. Before devoting her work fulltime to teaching, Olena graduated from Cherkasy Teacher's Training University, graduates of which are highly competitive at a labour market. Following her own rule "when you really want to develop yourself you seek a way" Olena has completed an online course "Critical Thinking in Language Learning and Teaching" at University of Oregon and participated in 16th American Studies Summer Institute "Promoting Transparent and Accountable Leadership" which have changed her view on many issues of life. Olena is currently doing her Phd thesis and studying ways of enhancing creative potential in future teachers of English as a foreign language. Olena has a cute daughter of eight who inspires her Mom to enjoy the beauty of life.

Dr. Takis Polit

Dr. Takis Politis is an Associate Professor of “ICT in Education and Didactics of Informatics” at the Department of Primary Education of University of Thessaly (Greece) since 2002. He has previously worked as a programmer at the National Bank of Greece; as an adjunct Professor at the Technological Educational Institution of Athens; as a visitor Senior Lecturer at the University of Athens, Department of Primary Education postgraduate level, ICT in Education division. He holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Patras (Greece); a MSc in Didactics of Informatics, from the University Paris 7 (France) and a PhD in ICT in Education from the University Paris 7 (France). He specialises in the area of ICT in Education, Educational Software Development and Didactics of Informatics. His research interests include information and communication technologies in education, modelling software design, pedagogical software evaluation and adults training. He has extensive expertise on computers multimedia sector and has published more than 100 papers and books on various subjects of computer science education. He has participated in IST, ESPRIT research and national research projects.

For the first time Dr. Takis Politis visited Palestinian University in 2004, participating in an European solidarity mission to the occupied Palestinian territories of West Bank. Since then he travelled several times in Palestine and tried to establish cooperative relations with Palestinian Universities, especially with Al Quds Open University, Birzeit University, An-Najah University, Arab American University and Islamic University of Gaza. As result of these efforts we mention: submission of joint research programs (with collaboration of Open University of Cyprus), fellowships for Palestinian postgraduate students in Greece, invitation of Palestinian University Professors as keynote-speakers at conferences in Greece.

In 2008, Dr. Takis Politis, along with 43 other activists, on two Greek small fishing boats, participated in the first international mission succeeded to break the 41-years illegal Israeli naval siege of the Gaza Strip. In 2010, he also participated at the international Freedom Flotilla II solidarity mission, with 6 vessels and about 650 activists, carrying 8,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip. In international waters the mission was attacked by Israeli naval forces. Ten activists were assassinated by IDF, all others were arrested and remained detained for some days in Israeli prison and then they were deported, while a 10-year ban on entry in Israel for every one of the participants at the mission. Until 2020 Dr. Takis Politis can’t enter the occupied Palestinian territories since the access to them requires crossing points under the israeli control.

Dr. Randa Sheikh Najdi

Dr. Randa Sheikh Najdi is an Assistance Professor of Math Education at Al Quds Open University, Palestine. She holds a Master's Degree in Pure Mathematics from UC Davis in California, and MA and PhD in modern methods of teaching mathematics from Egypt. She worked as a consultant for several institutions as a math educational development expert using scientific methods such as Van Hill theory and the multiple intelligences. She has several publications on the development of math critical thinking.

Dr. Randa is an expert in designing and developing math effective communication skills programs, as well as educational leadership programs. She is interested in authoring and Arabizing MOOCs. She has won a number of local and international awards in education and excellence.

Baha Thabet

Baha Thabet holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science. He has 8 years of experience in eLearning such as learning content development, instructional design, digital content repositories, metadata and digital content standards, mobile learning, blended learning, cross-platform technologies and user interaction. Mr. Thabet worked in many research and development projects as a field researcher, instructional design, domain expert and trainer in ICT skills for teachers. His research is focused on digital learning personalization, evaluating achieved learning outcomes and open educational resources. Currently he is the director of open learning & eLearning Center in QOU, the project manager of the sLOOC courses project, a member of QOU academic council, a member of the supreme council for quality assurance in QOU and a member of the QOU curriculum development committee.

Saba Farhaneh

Dr. Safaa Karaki Aldwaik

Dr. Safaa Karaki Aldwaik, Director of GIS & IT Department at Ramallah Municipality. She holds two masters and a PhD in Geography with a concentration in GIS & Remote Sensing from Clark University in Massachusetts, USA. Aldwaik has established the first GIS Municipal System in Palestine, in addition to manage the "Ramallah Smart City" project that includes a technology-based teaching-learning system for public schools.

Ghadeer Hamed

Ghadeer Hamed is a senior instructional designer at Al-Quds Open University. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Physics minor Computer Science and she had got her Master's degree in Science Education at Birzeit University. Also, she obtained a certificate of advanced eLearning design at the same institution. She worked as a teacher of physics, science, technology for different grades at schools for a year. Then, she has been working at Al-Quds Open University since 2011. She has worked on eLearning designing including self- paced courses, blended courses, eLearning object, mLearning, and virtual labs. Also, she has worked on scripts writing, storyboard, scenarios and a project manager for eLearning projects. In addition, she has worked as a trainer on instructional design and using ICT on education for teacher. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of eLearning on student’s outcomes.
